Your Questions, Answered

Should I schedule an in-person or a telehealth appointment?

The short answer - reach out and we can decide together!

In-person visits are most appropriate for conditions that require hands-on treatments (manual therapy, post-operative care, canalith-repositioning for vertigo) or physical assistance for safety with balance training. When in doubt, in-person visits are a good place to start if you live in the service area,

Virtual appointments are most appropriate for exercise adjustment and progression, symptom managment, and ongoing care after a plan has already been established. Many vestibular and autonomic conditions respond well to the appropriate exercise plans that benefit from personalized adjustments, all which can be done very effectively virtually!

Do I need a referral?

Oregon offers direct access, meaning you do NOT need a physician referral to receive physical therapy services.

However, we will happily take your referral, if you have one! At Stability, we believe it is important to collaborate with the other members of your healthcare team to provide you with the best care possible.

Referrals may be required in order to receive out-of-network reimbursement through your insurance company. If you are unsure, it is best to check with your insurance provider about your specific plan.

What should I expect at my first appointment?

Your first appointment will be focused on understanding your symptoms and developing a plan that is best for you! This may include questions about your medical history and current challenges, physical assessments of your strength, balance, and coordination, and observation of how you move and navigate everyday life.

Your appointment will conclude with a discussion about your goals and the plan for your course of treatment, including how often we will work together and over what period of time.

What is the difference between physical therapy and coaching?

Physical therapy is a comprehensive service that involves diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment of your specific symptoms such as dizziness, pain, fatigue, exercise intolerance, and balance difficulties.

Coaching is a wellness-based service designed to offer more generalized support after physical therapy has concluded or when skilled physical therapy treatment is not needed. Coaching is designed to keep you moving forward with all of life’s demands after your medical concerns have been addressed.

Can I use my insurance?

Stability Physical Therapy and Coaching is a cash-pay practice and is not contracted with any insurance companies. Because of this, payment is due at the time of service. For physical therapy services, a superbill can be provided for you to submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Because every insurance plan is different, reimbursement is not guaranteed, and it is the client’s responsibility to contact their insurance provider to understand their benefits.
